Beginner Guitar Songs

Starting to learn the guitar means starting with the right songs. Below are a list of Beginner Guitar Songs which are perfect for getting started. These songs use beginner guitar chords and use simple timing patterns. With a little bit of practice these songs will sound good and so you can use them to show off your new skills.

To learn how to play these beginner songs first listen to them at least once through. There are links to listen to the songs on each page. Once you've listened to the song you should be familiar with how it sounds. At the top of each song the chords which you will use are listed so you can practice their shapes. Use a basic strumming pattern and focus on having your fingers shaping the chords. Run through the basic chord pattern for as long as it takes for you to get it smooth.

Don't fuss about the strumming. Strumming is a seperate skill which you will develop as you continue to practice. You aim should be getting your fingers in the right positions and changing between the different chords. Take it slow and be patient. The skills won't come immediately but you will always be improving.

If this is your first time picking up a guitar you may find it a little difficult to move your fingers quickly. Don't worry about it, continue practicing and you'll have it in no time.

Be very forgiving of yourself. You won’t be Jimmy Hendrix when you first start out… actually you’ll probably be terrible, that’s just how it is. Practice and stick at it and you’ll be rocking out in no time!
